Software engineers develop and maintain large-scale complex software infrastructures. Our programme combines theoretical computing science with the principles and practices used in the modern software industry and gives you real-world experience. You pay for your software licence up-front and have the right to use it indefinitely. On top of the licence fee, you will have the option to pay for one-off implementation services and a support contract, which is renewed annually. Many software packages are available free of charge to Imperial College London staff and students. See ourSoftware for staffandSoftware for studentspages for ordering information and links to license request forms and downloads.

Some software cannot currently be streamed, hence a registration system is necessary to control and monitor downloads and usage of non-streamable software by the student body. This is mostly products that cannot be streamed on SoftwareHub or Mac/ Linux related software. Over the last few years, we have been working hard to make our software available for remote use, to be accessed by the usual remote working methods. We understand that the current situation may have an impact on your software requirements and usage.

They pursue careers in education, teaching English as a foreign language, education organisations, government and local authorities. You will be introduced to computing skills such as programming and computing system analysis, as well as the fundamental mathematics and theory of computer science. You will consider education in the widest context outside of formal primary and secondary school settings, to include social services, local and national government, and education within the community. Specialising in both education and computing will equip you with a valuable blend of skills and knowledge for a fulfilling career in computing education. We have a direct Apply System which makes application easy and fast for international students.

Lots of students choose to use their own laptops and other devices as you can access power and Wi-Fi across campus. Our Software Store has a wide selection of software suited for all types of devices and operating systems. If you are looking for installing or upgrading your Operating System, we have Windows 10 and others.

  • You will take courses on key areas of the subject, including programming, computer systems, databases and human-computer interaction.
  • Transfer between this course and other similar courses within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment may be possible on the basis of academic performance and availability of places.
  • The precise assessment will depend on the module and may be subject to change from year to year for quality or enhancement reasons.
  • Office 365 is a powerful suite of tools that offers familiar applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive for storing and sharing documents, and Microsoft Teams for online meetings, chat, and online collaboration.

We also operate virtual labs and Simulated Learning Environments which will facilitate greater access to training opportunities in the future. However, our approach also includes the use of some online learning to support and enhance traditional face-to-face teaching. When it comes to my teaching process, the classroom computer monitoring I use is Kickidler. And I’ve got to say it’s incredibly easy to use and everything has been running smoothly so far. Kickidler has made my life as a teacher so much easier, and my students’ performance has skyrocketed. Keeping track of every student’s progress is challenging and pretty much impossible.

Students will gain detailed knowledge of the mobile app creation process and of developing software solutions targeted at the Android environment. The knowledge gained and the solid foundation developed will equip the student with the confidence and capability to be able to extend their study to wider environments both existing and yet to emerge. Subscription-based software relates to a monthly or annual licencing model, allowing users to pay a per user fee. Customers typically pay an initial subscription upfront, and are entitled to use the software only during the subscription term, unlike a perpetual licence, allowing them to use software indefinitely.

The subscription payment includes software licences, access to support services and new versions of the software as they are released. Opportunities for postgraduate study in computing, engineering or related areas are substantial. The course has been designed to enable students who graduate with a good honours degree to apply for postgraduate study towards a PhD, MSc, MRes or other higher qualification. This module is designed to give the student an appreciation of the mathematical concepts required for computer science.

Consequently this module aims to meet the needs of today’s undergraduate students who wish to equip themselves with expertise in implementing enterprise wide computing systems. The Computer Science Software Systems Development course aims to deliver graduates that can apply best practice in the application of software engineering to the development of a wide range of information systems in organisations. The course of study covers all the necessary skills you will need to be a computing professional, from idea generation to system implementation. The scholarship will meet the cost of tuition fees for the duration of your programme, for those applicants who are unable to cover full tuition fees through access to public funds by applying to SAAS or Student Finance. The Sanctuary Scholarship also provides a £5,000 per year stipend, to assist with study costs. In addition, if the eligibility criteria for university accommodation is met, this will also be provided for the duration of your degree, if required.

The vital role of classroom monitoring

This policy is in place to ensure fairness and consistency to all applicants, and no exceptions will be made. The Clan Gregor Society is offering an award to new entrants to the University of Glasgow who descend from Clan Gregor. Prospective students will be asked to submit an application highlighting areas of consideration such as academic excellence and financial need. The RoI Access Bursary will only be awarded in years where tuition fees of £9,250 apply (i.e. Normally Years 1,2 and 3. Bursary is not paid in Year 4 where no tuition fees are due).
